WILDLIFE, LANDSCAPES, AND GEOLOGY

If you want to find and view the diverse wildlife of Alberta and Saskatchewan in spectacular natural landscapes, it helps to know a bit about the geology of where animals live. From the eroding Rocky Mountains, to the rain shadow of the prairies, to deeply entrenched rivers, and glaciated terrain, geology has a strong impact on the distribution of both provinces’ biodiversity. Join geologist Dale Leckie to explore the close relationship between wildlife, landscapes, and geology. Photo by Michael Squance.

Soaring Golden Eagles

Mount Lorette, in Kananaskis Provincial Park, is a classic migrating golden eagle viewing site. The golden eagle migration route is controlled by geology.
